ON THE FORMS OF THE ONE AND LALANGUE
FRANCO Alberto
The Il y a de l´Un (1) has arisen from the context of Seminar 19
and from conferences about "The knowledge of the analyst". It
tries to delimit a field, which is absolutely novel in the doctrine, determined
by an only one significant which works by separating itself from the order
of succession which is characteristic of the chain. About Il y a de l´Un,
it is said that it is what arises, suddenly and unexpectedly, in the field
of the indetermination and it does not need to be preached in order to
exist. Due to its uniqueness, it neither takes part of a series nor does
it relate to Other. Besides, as it lacks bedeutung and therefore it doesn't
denote or equal another, it is open to every possible sense.
It is necessary to point out that the fact that the supposition of the
existence of a significant, which does not need to be preached, makes
it necessary to conceive a field, as an original whole, whose pillar would
not be on the side of the great Other. Furthermore, the legality of this
field should be considered beyond the common legality of what is unconscious,
which is determined by the metaphor and the metonymy.
In the issue to be discussed today, which has started in the Seminar about
the Names of the Father, this significant, Il y a de l´Un, appears
to be equivalent to the significant of lalangue since if they are both
defined on the level with the One is by separating them from all possible
order.
As regards lalangue, it is consistently said, the sense flows copiously
in it. It is a copious flow which is consistent in this plane with the
notion of Il y a de l´Un that we describe: One that turns around
without counting itself and separated from all order. Owing to the lack
of said order, it remains outside the chain that promotes grammar and
therefore, signification. Undoubtedly, it is a bet on a notion of sense
of a tough nature, which could be well thought according to Milner´s
way of thinking, that is: the sense as a consequence of truth of an utterance
which is separated from its signification which can be represented and
exceeds significant material.
Of course, we may wonder if both fields, the one of Il y a de l´Un
and the one of lalangue are equivalent at some other point. Then, we could
mark a first point which places us in a Real register for in both cases
we refer to the time dimension of what can't be anticipated undoubtedly
is a characteristic of said register. But, apart from that, we know that
in this real register, the one of lalangue, the body's aptitude to receive
the marks of enjoyment provided by the maternal Other, as well as the
possibility of forming something out of the more or less rhythmic vicissitudes
of the way the body itself works are included.
In this dimension of lalangue we describe, and starting to that effect
from the origin, we may conceive the possibility the infans has to have
access to the language in the broad sense of the word, which means: being
able to talk by means of having access to the language, any languague.
Lalangue should stop being written because only by being confined, tamed
and shaped in the melting pot of the language, it shall guarantee the
access to a symbolic articulacy, now as a language in particular.
We refer to the access to the One that there is because, despite the fact
that the existence of an undivided One is rejected outright, it is understood
that there is the access to a One which is a real illusion of universe.
In this illusion, the macho believes in everything, which will be embodied
by the Master significant in the actual plane of speech.
It is essential to state that the before mentioned significant, represents
the possibility of the existence of the language by revealing the function
of what is symbolic.
We refer to a One which should be conceived in accordance with three different
forms. It is indispensable to detail these three forms:
There is the One: as it was said before, it unifies itself creating the
body of the language. It is created as the apparent unit that lets the
speakers suppose that there exists a universe of speech. It is important
to point out that said illusion of the unit arises from an opening act
of subjective division and production of the rest, whose effects are the
object of a real verneinung.
There is the unique One: in its outward appearance it backs the "allism"
(2) of the One of the language. This form of One is absolutely assimilated
to what may be called father function and, even if it can hardly be supported
under the form of semblant, it marks, by contrast, the dimension of what
is missing and at the same time it opens the illusion of enjoyment without
hope. With these two dimensions of the One, we can notice what Lacan in
L´etourdit teaches us: if the subject of the there is the One is
wholed (3) by the unique One, exterior to him, it is divided (thomea)
There is the any One: it can be regarded as a pure emptiness. The form
that the any One adopts is the one of the significant One as it is shown
in the speech of the master in which the imperative, the S1, being able
to be any significant, it is all of them and none of them in particular.
As it has already been said, the significant master, as an imperative
form comes to reveal the function of what is symbolic in the necessary
alternation with the Other which must be understood, for the purpose of
our exposition, as the significant which lives in it :the S2.
Finally, the event in which a significant represents the subject from
another significant is necessary so that only the remains called "a"
are left from it; the establishment of that significant division, and
of the logic with which its chain is produced is also necessary, so that
the Il y a de l´Un is not written anymore. Of course, even in the
event that this happens, lalangue is ritornello and it will never stop
squeezing through the little spaces as an emergency of a reality that
we must necessarily relate to what is the true field of inscription of
the significant and the "natural" place of all enjoyment marks,
that is to say: the body.
N.D.T. (1): the term Il y a de l´Un was written in French since
there does not exist an equal translation of said term in English.
N.D.T. (2): "allism" is the most approximate translation of
the word todismo which was written in the original document and which
was made up by the author.
N.D.T. (3): "wholed" is the most approximate translation of
the word paratodea which was written in the original document and which
was made up by the author.
